Savannah

Its been a while since I've posted anything decent. Well actually it could be never since I've posted anything decent. So its probably best to get these group of photos up before they disappear into the untouched depths of my hard drive.

So last weekend myself and my roommate went to Savannah Georgia. This was only the 2nd time I've ever been and Paula Deen was long overdue. We have a couple of friends that live in or around Savannah so it was only natural that a visit was in order.

We started out leaving at 1:30AM Friday. I didn't get off work until around 11:30PM and we decided to head out that night so we would be there well into the morning to optimize riding time. Before we left Gainesville though, rent had to be paid and food had to be eaten, cause I was hungry. So we did that. Here is us paying rent to an unmarked building off Main St.

I took an hour nap at the Georgia Welcome Center once we crossed the state line. When we got to Savannah it was anywhere between 6:30AM and 7:30AM. Unknown to us at the time, there was a marathon about to begin. I believe it was the annual Savannah Rock 'n' Roll run where some friends said there was an extra 50,000 people in the city. Not the best time to be arriving half delusional, driving around just looking for a place to park and get our bearings straight. We eventually made our way to a gas station and gave our buddy Mike a call.

Luckily he was only about 20 minutes away and the sun was coming up. His mom made us bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches that were the among the greatest things I've ever eaten. Not even kidding, these were about as good as it gets. Combined with fresh coffee, orange juice, and almond milk I could probably eat them for the rest of my life and never get sick of it. No joke.

The first day was sort of a feeler day. We went up to South Carolina to a skatepark called Buckwalter. Nothing but smooth transitions and quarters, the complete opposite of what Possum is.

After that we headed a little farther north to a place called Beaufort. I didn't take any photos at this place but it was pretty fun. It was a smaller park with a few quarters, a mini, and a 4ft micro with a spine. I liked the spine. I tried to do something new at each place or at least something that scared me a little. That something at this place was 180 the spine. Nothing fancy or super extreme but something I've never done before. I wanted to 360 it next but the thought of looping out scared me too much.

That night we went street riding in Savannah. The drive back was long so I slept a little in the backseat. Mike and Brad(roommate) stopped by McDonald's and ordered over 20 chicken nuggets, two large fries, and every type of sauce they served. And they ate it all. One of the main buds I wanted to see worked at Vinnie Van Gos and recommended it as the best pizza place in Savannah. It turned out to be pretty f***n good. They weren't very expensive either. Feeding 4 people came out to be about $20. Here is a shot of the bike pile, the pizza guy, myself, and brad.

While at Vinnie's we met up with one of Mikes friend Eric. He turned out to be a pretty cool guy who was just getting into BMX. Wasn't half bad for only riding a few months. By the end of the night we ended up at a ledge on East River Street. There Mike and Eric were tearin' it up, and goofin' off!

That night ended around 1:00AM and we drove back to Mikes house where I pretty much passed out on the spot. The floor was made of smooth hard bricks but I didn't care. The next morning for breakfast we ate cheeseburgers with horseradish cheese and eggs. There was plenty off coffee too of course. We went back to Buckwalter and shredded with a whole group of BMXers from that area. Once again I didn't take many photos but at the end of the day I got my camera out and got a shot of Jordan(Buddy @ Vinnie Van Go's) boosting a 270 over one of the hips. Dude shreds.

That night we ate at a place called Sushi Zen. It turned out pretty good but a lot more expensive than what I was going for. Everything in the food photo below came out to $18, not including tip.

After that we met back up with Jordan and rode street for the rest of the night. Grindin' rails, doin' wallrides, jumpin' parking garage gaps up until 2AM. All in all it was probably one of the best weekends I've had all year. I felt as if I actually got something accomplished and progressed a little. Next weekend we will be going back and making a trip to Atlanta. It'll be hard to beat the excitement of this trip but we'll try.
